Trial lesson vouchers, validity periods, bookings and cancellations:
Trial lesson vouchers are only available on payment of the full fee and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. An e-voucher will be emailed to the email address provided at the time of booking within 3 days of the purchase. All vouchers are non-refundable and can only be used by the person named on the voucher. A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for cancelling a booking. Any late cancellations or failure to attend for a booked flight will automatically terminate the validity of the voucher. Vouchers are not transferable without written consent.
Please be aware that our training aircraft has a maximum seat load and take-off weight allowed. This limits the maximum weight of any trial flight voucher holder to 90kg. Please do not purchase a trial flight voucher for any recipient who is over 90kg as the flight would not be able to take place.
The minimum age for the recipient of one of our trial flight vouchers is 16 years old. If the voucher holder is less than eighteen years of age they need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will need to sign a consent form prior to the activity. There is no upper age limit for trial lessons.
You should also have a reasonable level of fitness and not suffer from any known condition that may make you unfit to fly. This includes, but is not limited to, conditions that may cause dizziness, fainting, blackouts or fits. If unsure please contact us. In the interest of your own safety you must give details of any medical conditions that may affect your ability in the air, including motion sickness. If you are in any doubt about any medical condition please contact your GP for advice. You must NOT fly if you are pregnant or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
To book a time for your flight please call 07882 590499 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. No guarantee can be made as to the availability on any particular day as we operate on a first-come-first-served basis, so please be as flexible with your booking dates as possible. Please give as much notice as possible for your preferred dates as we can be fully booked up to 4 months ahead for weekend flights during the summer.
On the day of your booking you MUST call the flight line number on 07882 590499 after 8:30am for an assessment of the weather conditions. Please arrive at the airfield 15-30 minutes before your flight time. Directions are available on our website www.sunbirdsky.co.uk/location - Failure to arrive by the specified time may result in your voucher being void. In the event of bad weather your flight will be re-booked for another suitable date.
Your briefing and flight will be conducted by a Civil Aviation Authority approved Instructor. A pre-flight briefing will be given by your instructor regarding the aircraft and your flight. During the flight experience you will be given a demonstration of the effects of controls, and if appropriate, the opportunity to handle the controls and fly the aircraft.
Please attend wearing clothes suited to out-door activities for the time of year, including trousers and flat shoes. Bring a jacket and warm clothes in winter and lighter clothing in the summer. All other flying equipment will be provided on the day.
You are welcome to bring spectators, friends and family with you when you attend for your trial lesson. The general public must remain behind the airfield fences and not go airside, unless escorted by one of our instructors or staff. There are great views of the airfield from the spectator points and there is also a cafe and toilets available. Sywell Aerodrome has good pushchair and wheelchair access and facilities, should any of your party require them.
(Note: the café and museum can have seasonal opening times).
Lesson Bookings and Cancellations:
Cancelling a booked lesson requires a minimum notice period of 48 hours. If a booking is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice a cancellation fee will become payable.
Weather is one of the biggest factors in all flying activities. The weather conditions on the day of any booking will be closely monitored and if it is not suitable your flight may have to be postponed or re-scheduled. As the weather is subject to change this may be a last minute decision. If your flight has to be cancelled, shortened or delayed due to weather conditions this will be for safety reasons. If your flight is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions an alternative date will be re-scheduled.
For students undertaking a course of flight training our insurance does not cover any student pilot to fly solo over the age of 75 years, or any student that has been involved in an incident or accident acting as pilot in command during the last 5 years. As there is a solo requirement for the issue of an NPPL with Microlight rating, this clause would not permit the course of training to be completed. Students flying a school aircraft solo are liable for the excess of £500 should a claim arise following an incident or accident. No excess would be payable following an incident or accident when flying dual with an instructor or examiner.
